Albion Rovers striker Marc Pollock faces year on sidelines
Feb 3 2010 by Colin Paterson, Airdrie & Coatbridge

MARC POLLOCK has vowed to bounce back from his injury nightmare, writes Colin Paterson.

The Albion Rovers striker faces a year on the sidelines after it was confirmed that he has damaged cruciate ligaments in his right knee.

Pollock will have a scan on February 23 and will go under the knife in May.

Rovers have confirmed they will stand by the young forward, who recently signed a contract extension which will keep him at Cliftonhill until the end of next season.

Albion Rovers release six players

BOSS Paul Martin has released six players as he begins to re-shape his Albion Rovers squad.

The Cliftonhill boss met with his squad last night after Rovers missed out on a Third Division play-off place by just one point.

Keeper Jamie Ewings, midfielders Steven McKeown and Mark Canning and the strike trio of Pat Walker, Paul McLeod and David McFarlane were freed.

The under-23 quartet of Alan Reid, Michael McGowan, Mick O'Byrne and Marc McCusker have been offered new one-year contracts, but if any of them decide to move on, Rovers will be entitled to financial compensation.

Player/assistant manager Todd Lumsden, Alan Benton, Jamie Gilmartin and Danny Ferry all accepted the offers of one-year deals.

Fresh terms were also made to Ciaran Donnelly, Paul Tyrrell, Chris Boyle and Terry Dignam.

The loan duo of Ryan Thomson and Denis McLaughlin have returned to their parent clubs, Dunfermline Athletic and Dumbarton, respectively. Martin has yet to speak to winger Lee Hoolickin.

Goalie Derek Gaston and injured striker Marc Pollock are already under contract to May 2011.

Rovers start adding to their squad

Albion Rovers have signed one of the players that cost them a promotion play-off spot with Queen’s Park’s right winger Chris Hamilton signing on at Cliftonhill just two weeks after being awarded the Spiders’ Goal of the Season for his last minute winner against Paul Martin’s side back in October,

The Coatbridge side are also believed to be looking to add striker Robert Love to their pool, following his release from Second Division Stenhousemuir and Darren Dalrymple from Junior side Kilsyth Rangers.

And Albion Rovers gaffer Paul Martin has secured the services of striker John Gemmell.

Meanwhile, Rovers manager Martin expressed his delight in signing Gemmell on a one-year deal.

The 25-year-old returns to Cliftonhill after two years spent firstly at Cowdenbeath and then Montrose.

"He has bounced about for the last couple of years but he has unfinished business with Rovers," Martin told Advertiser Sport.

"John wants to get back playing football, enjoying his football and enjoying his training. We feel we can get the best out of him."

Na, das hat sich ja gelohnt. Nach nur einem Monat verlässt Kevin Watt den Club wieder.

Watt a short stay at Coatbridge

Tuesday 17th August 2010

Kevin WattStriker Kevin Watt’s stay at Albion Rovers has been a short one as the summer signing from Airdrie United has left Cliftonhill already. The 20 year old, who enjoyed a loan spell at Coatbridge two years ago, had not started a game for his new club this time out and both parties have agreed that his contract should be cancelled by mutual consent.

Manager Paul Martin advised, “It is always disappointing when a move does not work out and it is in the best interests of both parties for Kevin to move on.”
