Getafe sign José Macías - Most valuable Mexican in Liga MX

Spanish first division club Getafe have announced the signing of Mexican international José Macías. The 21-year-old center-forward initially comes on loan from Deportivo Guadalajara. Getafe have an option to buy Macías, which according to the Marca is €4 million next summer—but for only 50% of the transfer rights. In return, Chivas would presumably be paid half of the transfer fee in the event of a future transfer after the option is exercised.

Macías is considered one of Mexico's greatest talents and, with a market value of €10 million, is his country's most valuable player in Liga MX. The attacker won the CONCACAF Champions League with Chivas in 2018. In 75 competitive matches, he scored 23 goals for the club. In an interview with TM in the summer of 2020, Macías said, "I like challenges. I don't think I would be better or worse in a league. I think it depends on the project. For me, the club is much more important than the league. I want to be where I get confidence and where I can grow. I want them to see me as an important player who can help achieve ambitious goals." That now seems to be the case at Getafe.
