Man United beaten by PSG - Giroud scores four in Chelsea win
Manchester United have failed to make a big step towards the round of 16 on Wednesday. The Red Devils lost 3-1 at home to French giants Paris Saint-Germain. That result means that Man United, PSG, and RB Leipzig, who beat Basaksehir in spectacular fashion 4-3, will all head into the final matchday with nine points each.
On balance, it was a deserved victory for PSG on Wednesday. The Parisians took the lead in the sixth minute when Brazilian star Neymar beat David de Gea with a shot from a close distance. United slowly found their way back in the game and finally equalized in the 32nd minute when Marcus Rashford scored with a deflected effort.
Faced with the equalizer, PSG stepped up their effort and, in the 69th minute, once again took the lead. This time Marquinhos scored from close distance following a corner kick. Just one minute later, things went from bad to worse for United as Fred was sent off with a second yellow card. With one man more on the field, PSG were now in complete control, and in the 91st minute, Neymar scored his second to put the game away.
Giroud masterclass vs Sevilla - BVB through but lose Haaland & Hummels
In Spain, a fantastic performance by striker Olivier Giroud secured Chelsea first place in Group E. Often linked with a move away from the Blues; the French forward showed his worth to Frank Lampard by scoring all four goals in Chelsea's 4-0 victory over Sevilla.
Also through to the next round is German side Borussia Dortmund. The Black and Yellows had to start the game without star striker Erling Haaland; the Norwegian will be out until January with a hamstring injury. The Black and Yellows started as the more dominant team and took the lead just before halftime. Raphaël Guerreiro was the scorer. But then, in the 67th minute, Lazio were given a questionable penalty that allowed Ciro Immobile to equalize. Dortmund then lost Mats Hummels to injury and only just about managed to hang on to the all-important point.
