Philadelphia Union add Mikael Uhre - Club record signing arrives from Brøndby

It is a new record transfer for Major League Soccer side Philadelphia Union. On Thursday, the club finally announced the signing of their new Designated Player Mikael Uhre. The 27-year-old forward arrives from Danish side Brøndby and has signed a three-year contract with a club option for a fourth season. According to the very well-informed Inquirer journalist Jonathan Tannewald, the transfer fee will be $2.8 million, which is a new record transfer for the Union (overview). 

“We have been following Mikael for some time as he has developed and risen through the Danish Superliga, and we are excited to complete this deal to bring him to the Union,” Philadelphia Union sporting director Ernst Tanner said in a club statement. “We are always looking for ways to improve the quality of our roster and we believe Mikael, having become a top player in Denmark, is a good fit for our system and will be an integral piece in our continued growth as a club. We are looking forward to welcoming him as we build on the success of last year and turn our attention to the 2022 season.”

Uhre joined the Union after having an impressive campaign with Brøndby. The one-time Danish national team striker scored 14 goals and two assists in 26 games across all competitions for the club based in Copenhagen during the first half of the 2021/22 season.
