Änderung des Gentlemen's Agreement

Nach langen Verhandlungen wurde das Gentlemen's Agreement zwischen Wales, Nordirland, Schottland und England ändlich deutlich abgeschwächt.
Bisher sagte es aus, dass ein Spieler, der zum Beispiel den nordirischen Pass hat, aber in England lebt und gut genug für die A-Nationalmannschaft wäre, nicht für diese spielen konnte, damit der anderen Nation, hier Nordirland, kein Spieler ,,geklaut'' werden kann.
Prominentester Fall in letzter Zeit war hier der in Oldham (England) geborene Andrew Driver, der seit 9 Jahren in Schottland lebt, hier 5 Jahre zur Schule gegangen ist und auch für die Schülernationalmannschaft gespielt hat. Außerdem ist seine Mutter Schottin, dennoch konnte er bisher nicht für Schottland spielen, aufgrund eben des Gentlemen's Agreement.
Nun hat man geschaftt, das zu ändern. Wenn jemand mindestens 5 Jahre in einem der 4 Länder zur Schule gegangen ist und einen Britischen Pass hat, darf er auch für das Selbige spielen.
Scots poised for Driver approach
England Under-21 winger Andrew Driver is now eligible to play for Scotland, Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith has confirmed.
Smith has had a proposed change to the selection criteria agreed by the other three home nations and ratified by world governing body Fifa.
It now includes players with a British passport whose only tie to a country is attending school there for five years.
Smith will now hope that Driver will choose Scotland over England.
The 21-year-old Hearts winger will now be considered by Scotland manager George Burley for next month's friendly against Wales in Cardiff - but only if he intimates that he would be happy to switch from England.
Driver was born in Oldham but raised in Scotland and represented his country of residence at schoolboy level.

wusste garnicht das es so ein Agreement gab, danke fur die aufklarung
mMn sollte man fur das land Spielen mit dem man sich verbunden fuhlt und das ist bei einen Spieler der 9 Jahre lang in Schottland lebt und dort sogar 5 jahre in die Schule ging, die verbindung zu Schottland sicherlich hoher als zu England

ANDREW DRIVER last night admitted even the captain of his own team doesn't want him to play for Scotland.
Following a change of rules by UEFA, George Burley can now pick the Hearts winger for his national squad even though Driver has played for the England Under-21 team. But if gets the call one player in particular won't be best pleased - club skipper Michael Stewart.
Driver said: "I know Michael would never approve. He's the biggest patriot you could meet.
"Not a day goes by that he doesn't give me grief about being English. He wants England to lose at everything."
One team mate who would like to see Driver pull on the navy blue of Scotland is Lee Wallace, who made his own debut for George Burley's side in Japan on Saturday.
Wallace said: "Of course, it would be good to see him in the same Scotland squad as me - obviously if I was involved.
"It would be nice to see, nice for him personally as well.
"With all the drama and everyone's opinions on what he should be doing, at the end of the day it's his decision.
"So whether or not it comes about, we'll have to wait and see."

Bevor dieses provinzielle Denken a la Stewart, was auch immer seine Beweggründe dafür sein mögen, nicht überwunden werden kann und so tief verwurzelt im schottischen Fussball bleibt, so lange kann man wohl vergeblich darauf hoffen, dass der schottische Fussball international mal wieder etwas auf die Beine kommt.

Ich sehe das etwas anders. Man kann bei diesem Problem keine "normalen" Maßstäbe anlegen, oder "unsere" deutschen, nenn es, wie du willst. Diese Überheblichkeit kommt eben im Norden der Insel nicht gut an, um es mal vorsichtig zu formulieren.
Die Abneigung besteht seit ewigen Zeiten, und zwar von beiden Seiten, dass wirst du in den nächsten Jahrzehnten nicht rausbekommen.
