Raith Rovers 1-0 East Fife

Mark Ferry headed Raith to a narrow victory over rivals East Fife.

THE ANTICIPATED return of Kevin Smith to Raith Rovers has been soured with the news that the club has lost the services of another key forward for up to six weeks.

In the same week that the club reached a verbal agreement with Dundee United for the return of top scorer Smith, his strike partner Gary Wales was ruled out until the beginning of March.

Rovers are hoping to have the paperwork on Smith's second loan spell at Stark's Park completed in time to allow the striker to return to the team at Alloa on Saturday.

Former Hearts midfielder Stephen Simmons has signed for Raith Rovers after a successful trial.

And the 26-year-old could make his official debut in Saturday's Second Division meeting with Alloa Athletic.

Simmons, who also played for Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline and Queen of the South, played as a trialist in last weekend's win over Stranraer.

Meanwhile, Dundee United forward Kevin Smith's loan at Stark's Park has been extended until the end of the season.
