Nach McNeil unterschreibt auch Willie Dyer:

NcNeil and Dyer in Kirkcaldy move

Raith Rovers have signed goalkeeper Andy McNeil and defender Willie Dyer.

McNeil, who was released by Hibernian last summer, had come to the end of his contract with Montrose and has signed a one-year part-time contract.

The former Scotland youth left Montrose after the Links Park outfit finished bottom of Division Three this season.

Dyer, who is also 23 and previously played for St Johnstone, was out of contract with Brechin City and has secured a two-year full-time deal.

He had left McDiarmid Park for Brechin in January 2008 and could have been playing against the Angus club in Division One next season had they not lost their play-off final to Cowdenbeath.

Raith may make Deuchar move

RAITH ROVERS manager John McGlynn has not ruled out making a move for former St Johnstone player Kenny Deuchar, writes Neil Robertson.

The big striker has just left Saints to concentrate more fully on his medical career as a doctor, however he is keen to continue playing senior football on a part-time basis.

When McGlynn was asked if he would be interested in signing the proven goal-scorer, he admitted, “We are fortunate to be able to have full-time and part-time players at our club, so you can never say never.”

The Stark’s Park gaffer may or may not make a move for Deuchar but he is hoping to have more definite signing news by Thursday or Friday.

“We have sent a player’s documentation through to the SFA and we hope to be able to reveal his name by the end of this week,” said McGlynn, who has already added goalkeeper Andy McNeil and defender Willie Dyer to his squad for next season.

After last term’s exploits in league and Scottish Cup, Rovers fans could be forgiven for worrying that the club might become a victim of its own success with other sides casting envious eyes over their players.

However, McGlynn has calmed those fears, saying, “To my knowledge, there has been no interest from other clubs in any of our players.

“I am looking forward to seeing them all back for the start of pre-season training on June 22.

“We have three pre- season matches lined up so far with another pencilled in. Ideally, I would like us to have five in total.”

Raith set course for future promotion to the SPL

Raith Rovers hope to bring SPL football back to Stark's Park

By Matthew Elder
RAITH Rovers have set course for a return to the Scottish Premier League.
Manager John McGlynn met with the board of directors last week to review the season, and map out a blueprint for the club's future.

McGlynn, who recently signed a new two-year contract to remain at Stark's Park until 2012, was commended on an 'exceptional job' in keeping the club in the First Division, and leading Rovers to a Scottish Cup semi-final for the first time in 47 years.

And it was put forward that the Kirkcaldy side should be aiming to mount a challenge for promotion to the SPL within 'two to three seasons'.

Dave Somerville, club chairman, told SportsPress: "In the next two to three years we would be looking to seriously challenge for promotion.
Realistic targets

"We believe that's realistic. When you look at teams with bigger budgets, it's mainly through artificial means, such as someone pumping money in from the outside.

"How sustainable that is in the long term — I don't know.

"At Raith we run with a mixture of full-time and part-time players, with more emphasis towards full-time, and I suspect that a number of other First Division clubs will do the same next season.

"With that in mind, I don't think our budget is as far away from other First Division clubs as people seem to think.

"Let's not get carried away – next season our target is to progress.

"We're looking at the very least towards mid-table. Anything above that would be a bonus, anything below that would not be viewed as progress.

"If we keep moving forward step by step as we are under John McGlynn, challenging for promotion is certainly the target as far as the next two or three seasons go, although I would stress we're taking it one step at a time."

The club is also plotting progress off the pitch, with considerable sums of money currently going towards the maintenance of Stark's Park.

Directors are keen to carry out the work required to re-open the Railway Stand, but Mr Somerville admitted that priorities currently lie elsewhere.

"The maintanance needs of Stark's Park are so much that we're trying to catch up all the time," he said.

"We hope to do something with the Railway Stand but the priorities have to be to maintain what we've got. Maybe next year with another cup run we might have the funds to look at these things.

"Most people will agree the main issue for Raith Rovers in terms of Stark's Park is the pitch. There's one or two other issues, but nothing too serious."

The youth academy was also brought up at the last week's meeting, with directors keen to see a return on the club's investment.

Mr Somerville added: "People get frustrated within the board room at spendings lots of money on a youth academy with nothing to show for it.

"We won't be able to view it as being wholly successful until there are one or two graduates playing regularly in the first team."

ROVERS first two signings of the summer have been confirmed.
The club have captured left back Willie Dyer from Brechin City, and goalkeeper Andy McNeill from Montrose.
Dyer (23), started his career at St Johnstone before moving to Glebe Park in 2008. Former Hibs goalie McNeill (23), has won international caps at under 20 level.
The club is expected to confirm Airdrie striker John Baird (24) as its third new signing within the next week or so.

Rovers manager John McGlynn has taken another step closer to completing his squad for the new season by securing the signature of John Baird from Airdrie United.John Baird

Baird, (right) began his career with Clyde, and made his debut in May 2003, coming on as a substitute against Ayr United.

He signed a professional contract with Clyde in July 2003, but only made 1 more appearance for the club before being released in December 2003.

He then joined St Mirren, where he became a fringe player, and had loan spells at Stenhousemuir and Montrose, before signing for the Links Park club on a permanent transfer in July 2007.

After finishing the season as the leagues top goal scorer, Baird was much sought after by first and second division teams, but he surprisingly elected to stay with Montrose despite his aim to get himself back to playing full-time football.

He joined Airdrie United in January 2009 and scored some notable goals for the Diamonds including 2 against Rovers in April as Rovers went down 3-0 at New Broomfield.

John has agreed a 2 year Full-time deal with the club and although his registration has yet to be confirmed by the SFA and SFL, no problems are anticipated, and everyone at Raith Rovers would like to welcome him to Stark’s Park.

2. Eventuell wird Darren Smith an Brechin ausgeliehen/abgegeben.
