Raith sign winger from neighbours

Raith Rovers have made a further move towards preparing for their second season back in division one by completing the signing of winger Scott McBride from Fife neighbours Cowdenbeath, writes Graeme Dey.

The former Dunfermline player has agreed a full-time deal with the Stark’s Park club.

Although he was only on Cowden’s books for five months—having previously been on loan to them from the Pars since the summer of 2009—Raith may have to pay a small sum by way of compensation for McBride, an issue that’s yet to be settled.

But boss John McGlynn last night expressed his delight with the capture.

“Scott caught my eye when Paul Smith and I went to watch the play-offs,” he revealed.

“He’s pacy and gets plenty of crosses in, which is what you want from a wide player. He also offers an aerial threat.

“At 20 years of age he has a lot of potential and I can see him being a real asset to us.”

Main Sponsor For New Season Announced
The board and management of Raith Rovers Football Club are delighted to announce that O’Connell’s will again be the name to adorn the front of the players’ kit after the management of the local Bar & Diner agreed to continue as main shirt sponsor for the forthcoming season.

O’Connell’s Bar & Diner was the place to be last season as Rovers retained their 1st Division status and embarked on their best Scottish Cup run in recent years culminating in a great day at Hampden and their appearance in the semi-final for the first time in 47 years.
A popular meeting place for Rovers fans before and after the match, O'Connell's staff take great pride in their reputation as a family friendly bar & diner, and John McGlynn’s latest signing Scott McBride called in at their premises in Kirkcaldy High Street to introduce himself and sample the surroundings.

Holidays all Rover as Raith prepare for preseason

Published Date:
17 June 2010
By Matthew Elder
THE WORLD Cup may only be entering its second week, but for Raith Rovers players the focus is already on the First Division campaign ahead.

The Rovers squad will resume preseason training on Tuesday and manager John McGlynn expects his players to return from their summer break in good shape.

Every player was given a fitness routine to follow during the close season in order to get a flying start when the notoriously tough McGlynn preseason gets underway.

"All the players had a programme to take with them over the break, and to stick to," McGlynn told SportsPress.

"Over the years most of the players I've had here have returned in good shape, and I expect that to be the case on Tuesday.

"The break is not as long as it was years ago, so we've never really had a problem with players coming back badly out of shape. With that being the case, I don't anticipate it being too long before they're back in condition.

"The only concerns are with the guys who have been out with long term injuries.

"Mark Campbell and Craig Wilson have been doing work on their own, but it may take them longer to get up to speed.

"Willie Dyer was also out with a broken fibula at the end of the season so he's one that will probably take bit longer."

Rovers also confirmed that signing of left winger Scott McBride (20) from Cowdenbeath, who may yet cost the club compensation as he is under 23.

McGlynn added: "We watched a few Cowdenbeath games towards the end of last season and he caught my eye as a player that could do a job for us.

"He's very positive with his running, he takes players on and gets crosses in. He's quick and works hard up and down the pitch, which is an asset we look for.

"He's only 20 so he's got a lot of potential. Hopefully he's only going to get better. He's also quite a big lad, and is good in the air, which could be an asset when we're getting crosses in from the other side of the pitch."

Sportspress understands that left midfielder Darren Smith has asked to be released from his contract in order to pursue first team football elsewhere.

Brechin, Alloa and Livingston are all chasing the 30-year-old, who is likely to be granted a free transfer in order to move to a new club.

McGlynn is tracking strikers Kevin Smith and Kenny Deuchar, but admitted he may start the season without adding to his current squad.

"If the season started tomorrow, I'd be happy with what I've got," he said.

Meanwhile, club secretary Bob Mullen revealed that the club has enjoyed a "brisk" period of season ticket sales since they were made available on June 1.

Any supporters wishing to receive a £25 discount on the price of a season ticket, must buy one before the end of June.

John McGlynn's Review Of The Season

22 Jun 2010

With only a few weeks to go until the new season gets under way, John McGlynn is busy preparing for the return of the players and the start of pre-season training, but the Rovers’ manager took time out to look back on events of last season which saw the players retain their First Division status and take the club and the fans to their first Scottish Cup semi-final in 47 years.

Davie Hancock and the Adam Smith College camera crew caught up with the manager, and in part one of our six part series, John McGlynn looks back on his pre-season comments of a year ago, and takes us through a very tough, but rewarding, start to the league campaign, and into the winter that was to throw the fixture card into chaos.

New Name On Back Of Shirts
Raith Rovers FC are delighted to announce that a new name will feature on the back of the players’ kit during the forthcoming season.

The club have agreed a one year sponsorship deal with The Penny Farthing, and Rovers’ most recent signing Scott McBride visited their premises in High Street Kirkcaldy to mark the launch of the new partnership that will see the company’s name appear on the back of the new home and away strips for the 2010/11 season.

Speaking on behalf of the Stark’s Park Commercial Department, Chris Lumsden told raithroversfc.com: “These are exciting times at Raith Rovers and we are looking to build on our recent success both on and off the field with new local sponsorship deals. We are delighted to welcome The Penny Farthing on board, and thank them for their support.”

Quote from barocogo:
Raith may make Deuchar move.......
